Maandagavond regende het prijzen op het jaarlijkse Musical Awards Gala. Producent V&V Entertainment won tijdens deze tiende editie de meeste prijzen. Maar de grote winnaar van de avond was toch musicaltycoon Joop van den Ende. Hij kreeg uit handen van concullega Albert Verlinde een prijs die "een oeuvre-award overstijgt".

Met de prijs wilden alle co-producenten Joop eren en hem danken voor het alles wat hij de afgelopen jaren heeft gedaan voor de musicalwereld in Nederland.
Verrast
Joop beklom zichtbaar verrast het podium, terwijl zijn prijs (het grote zilveren kunstwerk Getemde vrijheid) van kunstenaar Pepe Gregoire op een aparte tafel het podium op werd gereden.
Klapper
Albert illustreerde: "Met een oevre-award kom je er niet. Daarom hebben we een award voor je laten maken waarmee je honderd jaar vooruit kan." Daarmee kreeg het jubileum van de Musical Awards de klapper die het evenement verdiende.
Prijzenregen
De échte oeuvre-award van de Musical Awards 2009 ging overigens naar Alan Menken, de Amerikaan die talloze musicalnummers voor Disney (onder andere Alladin en Pocahontas) schreef. Op tv zagen 1,7 miljoen mensen hoe Alan geëerd werd met een bijzonder optreden van vijf Europese 'Belles' (van Beauty & The beast), onder wie de Nederlandse Chantal Janzen.
Nederlandse prijzen
Van de Nederlandse musicalsterren waren Simone Kleinsma (Sunset Boulevard) en William Spaaij (Footloose) de grote winnaars met prijzen voor respectievelijk Beste Vrouwelijke en Mannelijke hoofdrol in een grote musical.
Piaf
Bij de kleine musicals (minder dan twaalf acteurs op het podium) waren dat Liesbeth List (Piaf) en Urvin Monte (Five guys named Moe).
